Day 1 - New York!

(Sorry it’s late! Couldn’t find time.)

We arrived in New York after 10 hours of travelling yesterday, and immediately looked for our hotel. We were zonked, and resting in our rooms would have been nice. We arrived at the Quin only to find out that our room wasn’t yet ready. What we could do was look for a place for lunch. We went to a grocer nearby, found some pricy sandwiches, empanadas and peas. We ate on the floor above, in a cafeteria-style room.
We then decided to head to the Fearless Girl and the Exchange!

We were walking down a street, actually just a few seconds after this last photo was taken, and I saw this:

It looked like a small street alley, one that looked so crooked and tied together with string, with giant skyscrapers in the background and a vent pouring out what looked like SMOKE, that it looked a bit. . . sketchy. Papa explained to me that the ‘smoke’ was actually steam from boilers somewhere in the city. Still suspicious.
We eventually made our way to the Fearless Girl and the exchange.

Next, we went to the bull that was previously in front of the Fearless Girl. When we arrived, we saw a line just as long as the one in front of the bull, but they weren’t at its face. I don’t understand that myth. When we saw the long line in front of the bull, we decided to take a photo from farther away.

After that, we decided to head the the Staten Island ferry before we got even more tired. The building for the ferry was quite large, and we had just enough time to fill two of our water bottles before we got on. There were two floors of the ferry, and we chose the higher one, because almost no one was there. We went outside on the balcony, even though the seats were a little wet and it was sort of spitting outside. The horn blew, and we were off! The whole ride took only about 15 minutes, and the statue was in view within a couple minutes.

We got lots of photos, but at some point, it started to rain a bit harder. We moved inside for a little while, but the rain stopped soon. The seats were a little wet, but that’s fine. We took the return journey and then headed to a little restaurant in Chinatown. Happy Veggie is an Asian fusion and vegetarian restaurant, and we think it’s a college student project, as all staff was pretty young. The meal was delicious. We also got a yogourt drink thing, with little balls like tapioca pearls, but they’re different, according to the staff.
We went to our hotel after that as we were quite tired, and got into our room for the first time since coming here. We have some adventures planned for tomorrow!
